Rock Star Night – Adult Skate
Saturday, March 24, 2018, 10pm-12am
Central City Arena, 10240 City Parkway, Surrey, BC
Sure, retro roller rinks on TV and movies are all about the disco, glitter and shiny pants. But we all know what Canadian roller rinks were really like back in the day – loads of jean jackets, feathered hair, stubby Molsons in the parking lot, and A WHOLE LOTTA ROCK. That’s why we’re going to fight for our right to party and do an all-rock night for our next event! We’ll be skating to the best Rink Rock from the 70s and 80s at the roller rink formerly known as Stardust. Adults only please (19+). Sponsored by RollerGirl.ca.
Tickets $12 (or only $10 if you’re a newsletter subscriber – sign up here!), skate rentals included. Limited tickets available – don’t wait! PLEASE do not contact Central City Arena about tickets. They don’t have any. This is a private event organized by us.
Lots of parking available, and the rink is right across the street from the Surrey Central station on the Expo line. (Tip: Do NOT leave valuables in your car in this neighbourhood!)
Remember, your drop dead legs will be skating at their own risk. The boys (and girls) are back in town!
March 30 – One night only!
Roller Dance Workshops with Esther Molenaar
Friday, March 30, 2018
Vancouver Tap Dance Society, 2775 East Hastings St., Vancouver, BC
We are so excited to welcome Esther to Vancouver! She is one of the founding members of the group The Rolling Amazons who perform at festivals in the Netherlands and Belgium. She has skated in the New York Parade with Sisters in Motion, has been attending the Barcelona Skate Love festival since the beginning, and trains with skaters all over Europe. She owns the specialist rhythm skate shop Ginger Skates in Amsterdam with her partner Marcel van Stralendorff. Currently Esther drives a lot of her skate inspiration and joy from skating at the Es Quint Foundation, with Brian Swami BFunk, Linda Groove Fly Swagger Rider and many more.
Esther is offering a Beginner and Intermediate workshop at the Vancouver Tap Dance Society, 2775 East Hastings St. on Friday, March 30. This is a rare opportunity to learn roller dance essentials from one of the best in the biz. Read on:
Beginner Roller Dance – 7-8pm – $15
In this beginner workshop, you will learn the basics of roller dance; we will go through basic steps, rolls and turns. Please note – this is not a learn-to-skate class. You should already know how to skate and be moderately confident.
Intermediate Roller Dance – 8-9pm – $15
In this intermediate/advanced workshop, we’ll review and perfect some roller dance basics, then move on to combinations and choreography. Please note – you must have a bit of experience with roller dance to participate in this class, or at least be a confident recreational skater.
We’re going to to work hard in these classes, but above all, we’re going to have a great time. As you already know, life is better on roller skates! To prove it, here’s a little clip of Esther in action:
